Until he scored this UK#4/US R and B #10 hit, Jim Gilstrap was best known as the first voice on the Stevie Wonder smash, " You Are the Sunshine of My Life". He would also co-sing the title cut to the TV series "Good Times". The top spot belonged to the Bay City Rollers, heralded at the time as the "biggest group since The Beatles".

Looking at that top ten I had and still have FIVE of those singles. I bought the Jim Gilstrap single after hearing it played on the PA at Old Trafford at the Manchester United v. York City game. Toptastic post, really enjoyed it.

ReplyDeleteI'm not too surprised, really. "Kenny" and "The Goodies" and "Peter Shelley", say, I would have thought had an appeal only to a British audience of 10 to 14 year olds (inlcuding this one).
